The Daily Wonder is a family-made podcast for curious kids. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We keep it to the minimum we need, and we never sell your information.
Who we are
The Daily Wonder is run by our family in the United Kingdom. For anything about your information, email us at hello@thebigwonder.com or use our Contact Us page.
What we collect and why
When you ask a question (Ask a Question page), we collect your Wonder Kid’s question, their first name if you choose to give it, and your email address. We use these to consider the question for a future episode, to read out the question (and first name, if given) on the show, and to let you know if it’s chosen. We only ask for a first name, and you don’t have to give one.
When you join the Wonder Club waitlist, we collect your first name, email address and any ideas you share. We use these to tell you when the Wonder Club opens and to share what we’re planning.
When you subscribe to our newsletter (by ticking the box on a form), we use your email address to send you our newsletter, about one or two emails a month. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
When you contact us, we collect your name, email address and message so we can reply.
When you visit the website, our website host keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure and working. With your permission, we also use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the website, such as which pages are popular. See Cookies below.
Cookies
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. We use two kinds:
- Essential cookies, which the website needs to work, for example to keep forms secure. These don’t track you.
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics, which count visits and show how people use the site. Google Analytics doesn’t tell us who you are. We only turn these on if you choose “Accept” in the cookie message, and you can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
We don’t use advertising cookies.
Children’s information
The Daily Wonder is made for children, but our forms are for parents and carers. We ask a grown-up to send questions on their child’s behalf and to confirm they’re happy for us to use the question on the show. We never ask for a child’s surname, age, school, location or photo.
Our reasons for using your information
- Consent: for using your child’s question and first name on the show, for the newsletter, for the Wonder Club waitlist and for analytics cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: for replying to messages, planning episodes and keeping the website secure.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell or share your information for marketing. We use a few trusted services to run the show, and they only use your information to provide their service to us:
- our website host, which stores form submissions on the website
- Kit (ConvertKit), which sends our newsletter and Wonder Club emails. If you tick the newsletter box or join the waitlist, we send Kit your email address and first name (if you gave one). Kit may email you once to check you want to subscribe
- Notion, where we keep our list of questions for future episodes. We send Notion your Wonder Kid’s question and their first name (if given), and your email address
- Google, which provides our email (Google Workspace) and website analytics (Google Analytics)
Some of these services store information outside the UK. Where they do, they use approved safeguards (such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) to protect it.
How long we keep it
- Questions: we keep your email address and your child’s first name for up to 12 months after you send the question, or until we’ve let you know it’s been answered, whichever is sooner. After that we delete them and keep only the question itself, with nothing that identifies you or your child
- Questions used on the show: once a question (and first name, if given) is read out in an episode, it becomes part of that published episode, which stays available on our website and podcast apps. We are unable to remove names or questions once published.
- Newsletter and waitlist details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you
- Messages to us: for up to 12 months after we’ve replied
- Analytics data: for 14 months, after which Google Analytics deletes it
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you or your child, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can also withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from our emails. To do any of these, email hello@thebigwonder.com. We’ll respond within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page if anything changes, for example when the Wonder Club opens. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
